Dear Reader,
Good to see you here. Hi, I am Resh, the human behind The Book Satchel. You are receiving this email either because you were previously subscribed to The Book Satchel or recently opted in to receive this newsletter.
What has changed?
Nothing much.
But also a quite a bit.
The Book Satchel has gotten a makeover. Finally! I have been talking of sprucing up the website for nearly two (or three) years now. And putting it off. I reached a point where I could no longer go forward, so the site had to be on hiatus for an urgent glam up. A rather long one I admit — The redesign took much longer than expected but I finally sat down and fixed the many many things wrong with the website — the broken links, layout, the bugs some of you had notified me about (years ago, sorry!). I thought my eyeballs would fall off my sockets — being glued to the laptop like this — but that's another story. Word of advice if you have a website/blog — keep polishing it up; it is a mountain load of work otherwise. But the site looks nicer, lighter and easier to navigate. I am still testing it at the back end, so if you find any bugs that hamper your experience of browsing it — please let me know.
...the newsletter
Another change is this newsletter. Earlier, an automated email used to be sent out every time a post a published. But this meant I had no control over glitches or what is sent to you. It felt distant and empty. I am considering writing to you every week. More like, every other week. You can expect two to three emails every month. These will have updates on new posts, links to think pieces, long form and short form elsewhere on the internet, and of course have a personal touch. The links might include books, food, culture, films, popular narratives, art etc. I'll also be talking about books that may not find a way to longer posts on the blog. I figured this would be a really easy way to recommend more amazing reads without being constricted by the time to put together a full length blog post.
To my old subscribers — thank you for your support always and for the many valuable suggestions you gave about The Book Satchel before the redesign. There will no longer be any automated emails when a new blog post in published. Your best way to get notified about new posts as soon as they are published would be via Twitter. Since things have changed a bit, it is understandable if this newsletter isn't something you would like to see in your inbox any longer. We are sorry to see you go if this is no longer your cup of tea (though we really wish you would stick around for a bit and see if it interests you). You can unsubscribe to the mailing list via the link at the bottom of this email.
If you are a new subscriber — hello! You can read about me and how The Book Satchel came into being here. It started as a reading journal, mostly as a distraction. But today I am excited and nervous as I type this letter to you. I hope I'll be able to give you quality content and good recommendations. If looking for a new book to read, check out Books and The Best of the years. You'll surely find a good read to sink your teeth into.
You'll receive a second installment of the newsletter soon, probably in a week. I promise it will be a treat with amazing links to surf through, and more bookish news. Meanwhile do take a look at The Book Satchel. She is all decked up for you.
That's it for a reintroduction. Hello you! Hope to have many conversations soon.
Stay safe.
Until next time,
Resh x
