Hope your finger heals quickly, Resh! The same thing happened to me once cutting open a package of cold cuts. Had to go to the hospital, stitches, the whole thing. But it turned out good as new!
Oh no! It happens at the most unepected of times, right? I can imagine how the episode might've been. And I am going to be extra careful with cold cuts now on.
I was so happy to read this book! (I'm a Book of the Month subscriber and they were offering it as an early release.) The parts where Mia's pondering what it means to have a baseline for happiness were beautifully written--I'm sure I cannot be the only one who remembers being lectured in childhood to be grateful for what you have, but the story expresses that sentiment so well without being heavy-handed. And any book that can give you moments where you're laughing out loud when you're not tearing up is amazing.
I'm dying to talk about the ending and perhaps also some other choices in the narrative, because even if I wasn't sure how I felt about them while I was reading (I binge-read it in a day, it was just that good!), now that I've had a couple days to think about it, overall I like them based on what I * think * the author was trying to accomplish. And even for the choices I'm less sure about, I really want to hear others' perspectives--this book deserves to be talked about and I hope it will be the choice of many a book club in the next few months.
(And seriously, if anyone's still reading my rambling and hasn't read Angie Kim's debut novel Miracle Creek, please stop reading me immediately and go read Miracle Creek, just to tide you over until you can read Happiness Falls.)
Yes! This book is a great read for discussions. I absolutley loved the unreliability. And also how one 'bad' predicted-outcome later feels like 'good' one or a blessing in disguise. Simply shows how everything is so subjective.
And I hear you, I have not read Miracle Creek and I want to read it
Hope you're feeling better! V. excited about this book.
I am, thanks for asking. I hope you enjoy the book!
Ahhh that’s scary, hope you heal up alright 🫶💗
Thank you. It's been healing well
For sure! Always when you least expect it. But I should have known. Lesson learned: don’t stab the cold cut packet!
Advice taken :P
