I completely forgot that i'd read the wedding people! some of the writing was just so incredibly good. but there was something about it i didn't like, and now I can't remember arghh. i haven't watched severance, but maybe i should. I'm worried it's too tense for me.
Severance is good! I don’t think it would be tense for you (you already know there are innie and outies and innies can’t remember anything about their outie life. most of it is a mind game), BUT I would warn you to take care in some of the scenes. Like there’s a scene about making an incision, blood etc in second season. You’ll know it is coming so that gives you time to skip. It is helpful if you have someone watching with you so they can say when the scene is over. I just close my eyes and think of something else during those scenes. Also I would warn you about the Chikhai Bardo episode in S2. I found it quite intense and traumatizing (general trauma, miscarriage, hospitals, uncomfortable spaces) because of the themes. It is helpful if someone guides you through that one too and I def would not recommend watching that episode alone. Very sweet episode about falling in love shot beautifully, but the majority of it is trauma max. I also had nightmares after this episode. So be careful. Other than that it is a treat in storytelling. Easy way out, have you watched The Secret life of Walter Mitty, also by Ben Stiller? One of my fav films and I think you would love it too if you have not watched it. It is sad and happy at the same time and no triggers (except that you will probably cry lol). Good film for dreamers.
Ooh I just finished both The Residence and White Lotus. Guilty pleasure-d my way through the latter, the former was long and drawn out, but I'm a sucker for cozy murder mysteries. I just finished The Perveen Mistry series and if you have recommendations in the cozy mystery genre, please direct me to it, I'd appreciate :)
I have been enjoying the Inspector Gamache series for cozy (check the earlier books, the books later on in the series seem to have heavier themes). Have you checked out Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advicefor Murderers? And Dial A for aunties series. Both are comedy-cozy murder. Another book that comes to mind is The Inugami Curse
I recently began The Wedding People and was really liking it until the word "dollars" showed up and I realized I wasn't reading about a book set in Cornwall, UK, but in the US! Now I've gotta change my perception of the book but I'm gonna give it another go bc finding it in this newsletter means it's certified bookish gold.
haha. You were in for a rude surprise. :D Names of many towns and cities of UK can be found in the New England area. There’s lots of food for thought. I hope you enjoy
I recently chanced upon that Simon Leclerc painting too and it's such *a* mood! I have been trying to get into The Residence too and surprised that I haven't watched The White Lotus yet. I loved last season so much (the presence of Theo James may have helped a lot too;)
I enjoyed S1 the most, liked S2 too. I was quite disappointed with S3; only the last episode was the saving grace. Agree about Simon Le Clerc paintings
